What if authors and artists created their book art (covers front & back) without marketers? There would be no advertisements or reviews on them. Instead, the art of the cover captures the audience’s attention and can influence the reader’s perspective of the book’s purpose, like an album cover for a musician. I wonder if authors believe the rave reviews, among other marketing material, genuinely have a positive impact on the buyer. And if so, is that the buyer they wrote the book for? If someone only buys best sellers, are they thoughtful readers? I believe authors prefer an authentic readership.
Book Art is an opportunity for the author to connect with the reader in a different way than text. Pictures aid the reader in understanding the message of the book or influence the reader to create it themselves. Either way, a thoughtful picture can influence the reader and their connection to the book itself.
Authors and artists having the final say on book covers (without marketers) can deliver something fresh. Similar to the way Rockstars would design their album covers. Books now become treasures not only for the contents inside but for the art on the outside.
